Walking my dog

When you get a puppy for the first time, or even an adult dog, it is normal that you are assaulted by the question of how many times you have to take it for a walk to do its needs and exercise. Their animal condition makes them different from us, although… not so much, think about it, how many times do you need to go to the toilet during a normal day?

How often do dogs need to be walked?

It is difficult to teach them to urinate and excrete outside the home, but it only takes perseverance. When the dog is a puppy, it usually urinates after sleeping, eating and playing, so you can be alert and take it outside as soon as it finishes these actions.

At this stage, the best thing to do is to be very attentive to the dog and to be available to go out about six times a day. After he goes potty, you can reward him with some dog treats and show him with petting and kind words that this is what you want.

By the dog’s adulthood, even in his early youth, if he is already used to relieve himself in the street, you should take him out at least three times a day. If it’s too much work for you and for whatever reason you can’t, think twice before getting an animal. The dog needs movement and, like small children, strict routines. You must respect their meal time, their sleep time and… their walk time.

Ideally after your breakfast, when you come home from work or school and before dinner. If you include a quick evening walk, his bladder will thank you too. In any case, you can keep an eye on him if he is restless, barks a lot or is close to the chain.
